WGI Heavy Minerals Adopts Shareholder Rights Plan

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – WGI Heavy Minerals, Incorporated (“WGI”) (TSX: WG) announced today its Board of Directors has adopted a Shareholder Rights Plan (the “Rights Plan”) designed to encourage the fair treatment of shareholders in connection with any transaction involving a change of control of WGI. The Rights Plan addresses WGI’s concerns that existing Canadian legislation does not allow sufficient time, if a take-over bid is made, for either the board of directors or the shareholders to properly consider a take-over bid, or for the board of directors to seek alternatives to such a bid. The Rights Plan has not been instituted in response to any specific proposal to acquire control of WGI and WGI is not aware of any such proposal.

WGI Heavy Minerals Calls Shareholder Meeting to Approve Capital Distribution

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, October 27, 2008 – WGI Heavy Minerals, Incorporated (WGI) (TSX: WG) today announced that its board of directors has approved a special cash distribution to shareholders in the amount of US$0.80 per share. This special distribution represents a return to the shareholders of up to US$19.5 million (including distributions on shares anticipated to be issued upon the exercise of restricted stock units or stock options) to shareholders of record on December 19, 2008. WGI Heavy Minerals Board Advises Shareholders to Reject Dissident Shareholder Proposal

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – June 13, 2008 – The Board of Directors of WGI Heavy Minerals, Incorporated (TSX: WG) today recommended that shareholders vote to support the Company’s nominees to the Board at WGI’s Annual Meeting scheduled for June 25, 2008.

WGI Heavy Minerals Announces Sale of Transworld Garnet India (Pvt.) Limited

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – June 11, 2008 – WGI Heavy Minerals, Incorporated (TSX: WG) today announced that the Company and its partner, Heavy Industrial Minerals India (Pvt.) Limited, have entered into an agreement to sell their investment in Transworld Garnet India (Pvt.) Limited (“TGI”) for a cash consideration of 836,000,000 Ruppees, approximately US $19.5 million, to V.V. Mineral, of Tamil Nadu, India. WGI’s share of the proceeds is approximately US $17.3 million consisting of its 74% equity interest and the repayment of debt financing. The exact amount of the proceeds to be received by WGI will depend upon exchange rates at the time of closing which is expected to be in August, 2008.

Limited, have entered into an agreement to sell their investment in Transworld Garnet India (Pvt.) Limited (“TGI”) for a cash consideration of 836,000,000 Ruppees, approximately US $19.5 million, to V.V. Mineral, of Tamil Nadu, India. WGI’s share of the proceeds is approximately US $17.3 million consisting of its 74% equity interest and the repayment of debt financing.
