Products & Services — Waterjet Abrasives

WGI Heavy Minerals, Inc. currently offers garnet sand for abrasive waterjet cutting. Garnet is a superior cutting abrasive due to its hardness and high specific gravity. It is cost effective, has a low disposal cost, contains no heavy metals, and is low in free-silica.

WGI offers two different types of garnet to be used in the waterjet cutting industry ranging in size from #50 to #150 mesh. Our Emerald Creek Garnet® is mined from our Fernwood, Idaho (U.S.A) plant and is crushed which produces sharper edges for cutting.

An alternative to our domestic product is our Indian alluvial garnet, which is produced in our Tamil Nadu, India plant. Our Indian product is both economical and effective though it is not a crushed product.

Emerald Creek Garnet®

Waterjet Cutting Abrasive for Emerald Creek comes in the following mesh sizes:

#50 and #60 Garnet Abrasive For cutting steel, stone and other hard materials where the edge quality is not as important as speed.

#60/80 For a balance of edge quality and speed Emerald Creek garnet offers a blended material of both our 60 and 80 mesh material.

#80 This size is recommended if you are looking for a mesh size that will provide a better edge quality and can be used in a less hurried application.

#120 and #150 This finer garnet abrasive is primarily used for glass and other softer materials that require an excellent edge quality and precision cutting.

Emerald Creek mines and processes one of the premier garnet deposits in North America, and provides this garnet either washed or un-washed. Product can be packaged in 50, 100, 2000, or 4000lb bags. Standard Packaging is 4,000lbs per pallet.

Bengal Bay Garnet®

WGI's Indian operation provides:

Wes Jet™ - Our premium alluvial product, this material is very clean and is comparable to other high quality products sold throughout the world.

Kerfjet™ - Our Kerfjet is a washed economy grade product, containing higher amounts of fines (dust). This material performs well against most standard grades of garnet.

The following mesh sizes are available for abrasive waterjet cutting.

#50 For cutting steel, stone and other hard materials where the edge quality is not as important as speed.

#80 This size is recommended for most applications providing an excellent combination of edge quality and cutting speed.

#120 This finer garnet abrasive is primarily used for glass and other soft materials that require an excellent edge quality and precision cutting.

WesJet is available in 50lb HDPE or paper bags packed in jumbo bags or 1MT bulk bag. Kerfjet is available in 25KG HDPE or paper bags packed in jumbo bags or 1MT bulk bag. Standard packaging is 1 metric ton per big bag. Pallets are not standard but available.
